This article covered the annual Effective Property Tax Rates report, which compared estimated effective property tax rates in the six-county region of northeastern Illinois between 2007 and 2016, the last year for which data are available. Both the report and the article examine the two- and ten-year trends in effective property tax rates for the selected communities. In the ten-year period between tax years 2007 and 2016, effective tax rates increased for every community studied. However, between tax years 2015 and 2016, most of the communities studied saw a decrease in their effective tax rates.
