This article discusses a proposal by Illinois lawmakers to speed up collections of motor fuel taxes to four times a month, which could give the state a $75 million one-time revenue boost. The Civic Federation is quoted as being in favor of the change because it is in the state’s best interest to collect taxes weekly, and the cost to industry would be reasonable given that large volume gas distributors already pay a sales tax on gas four times a month.
