This article describes Civic Federation’s Status of Local Pension Funding Fiscal Year 2004: An Evaluation of Ten Local Pension Funds in Cook County report, which documents the $14.4 billion in aggregate unfunded liabilities held by ten local pensions in 2004 and makes recommendations on ways to improve the financial status of local pension funds.
