Cook Board Oks $3B Budget With Less Debt Than Stroger's

This article discusses the reduced FY2009 spending plan the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved on February 20, 2009. The Civic Federation is quoted saying that the Board's decision to reject borrowing that would cost the County more than $200 million in interest and fees is a step in the right direction. But the organization remains concerned that the spending cuts made by the Board will not be enough if the economic downturn continues.
