In 2006 the Civic Federation helped raise awareness of the serious funding issues confronting the Chicago region’s major cultural institutions and proposed a new system for their public funding. The effort included convening a steering committee and task force which included representatives from Museums in the Park, the Chicago Park District, and the Cook County Board of Commissioners; commissioning a major statistical study of the economic impact of cultural institutions on the region’s economy; and the publication of a research report.
