Damian Torres-Botello joined the Civic Federation in the Fall of 2010. A recent transplant from Kansas City, Missouri, Damian earned his degree in Theatre from the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas in 2001 and received honors in directing and theatre. Outside of his work with the Civic Federation, Damian is a playwright, performing artist, and director who focuses on issues of social justice. While in Kansas City he had served as a playwriting teaching artist working with inner city youth and was commissioned by local, state, and private non-profit organizations to originate plays that brought awareness and generated funds to help sustain their missions. Damian also co-founded Full Circle Theatre Company and The Doozers Theatre Project - theatre laboratories focused on presenting original plays about social justice. He is currently working on a commission from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet about severe poverty in Lima, Peru, titled Two Stories – his initial research trip to Lima was conducted the summer of 2009. He is a resident alum of The Fishtank Performance Studio in Kansas City, a member of The Dramatists Guild, Inc., and is very excited that Chicago is his new home.
