President’s Message
Over 100 years ago, Jane Addams, Bertha Palmer and Lyman Gage formed The Civic Federation to fight corruption and promote Chicago government reform. Today, many local business leaders are assisting the Civic Federation in its current role as a non-partisan supporter of rational tax policy, fiscal reform and increased government efficiency.
Senior business leaders from some of Northeastern Illinois’ largest companies, service firms and institutions are representative of the Federation’s membership. Their independent and commonsense perspectives are critical to the work of The Civic Federation. As a result of our business members’ efforts, The Civic Federation remains an important voice on issues ranging from property tax reform to appropriate funding levels for public pensions.
The Civic Federation has a well-earned reputation for producing authoritative research, providing reliable information, and taking seasoned action on public finance issues in the six-county region of Northeastern Illinois. In these economically challenging times, local public officials, the media, and the general public benefit more than ever from the independent and non-partisan input of The Civic Federation.
I encourage you to consider membership in The Civic Federation. Your support and participation will continue a 100-year tradition of Chicago-area business leaders working together to improve our local governments.
Sincerely,
Laurence J. Msall
President
The Civic Federation
